Shiseido Presents Benefits of Online Consultation on Appearance Care for People with Cancer

On Friday, June 23, Dr. Kazuyuki Ikeyama, a cosmetic therapy researcher presented his joint research with St. Luke's International Hospital and won an award of excellence at the 8th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Association of Supportive Care in Cancer*1 (held on June 22-23 at Nara Prefectural Convention Center, Japan).
Dr. Ikeyama shared the findings under the title of “Discussion on the effects of online appearance care consultations on the quality of life of breast cancer patients.” The research verified the effectiveness of online appearance care consultation.

The results revealed online consultations on changes in physical appearance helped lower the psychological hurdle to seeking advice and that appearance care advice could be expected to improve QOL and have psychological effects, such as reducing negative feelings and promoting positive attitudes. In addition, the results showed online appearance care consultations provide effective psychosocial support in coping with changes in looks from side effects of treatment. Dr. Ikeyama urged medical institutions and the private sector to develop a partnership, as it is instrumental in increasing care options.
