Our action for people living with cancer
LAVENDER RING MAKEUP & PHOTOS WITH SMILES: 2023 Event Report

Continuing the success from last year, we held LAVENDER RING MAKEUP & PHOTOS WITH SMILES events at 12 locations across Japan and four countries and regions in 2023 that were joined by a total of 306 persons and groups of people living with cancer. The posters of beaming smiles inspired courage in the participants and everyone who saw them. With a renewed commitment to “Inspiring smiles on people living with cancer,” we will spread more smiles through this program.

Comments from participants

  • All the messages encouraged people living with cancer to stay positive, confident, and happy, and they emphasized we are not alone in our fight against cancer. It was a meaningful event.

  • I was worried about my face, which had become swollen due to long-term steroid use, but the staff assured me that it was okay. I had never thought of myself as photogenic and was shy in front of the camera, but the photographer made me feel at ease.
    Woman in her 50s, Singapore
  • Seeing myself smiling brightly in the photo made me realize that I am so confident and able to express myself freely! And I feel so much so I want to tell other people living with cancer, "Cancer is not scary!" As long as you are willing to come out that you have cancer, your life will always be beautiful!
    Woman in her 50s, Taiwan
  • The event made me think about how I will overcome the treatment and how I will be compared to my future self. I have decided to turn this challenge into an opportunity!

  • I found it interesting to approach the problems that cannot be solved by medicine. I see potential in working with organizations other than medical institutions.
