Shiseido participated in LAVENDER RING MAKEUP & PHOTOS WITH SMILES and provided contents for the LAVENDER RING CHANNEL online at Japan Cancer Forum 2020 from Oct 24-25 (Sat-Sun).

LAVENDER RING, the annual event held at the National Cancer Center, was hosted online for the first time this year, where many cancer survivors from all over the country joined in.

Shiseido Beauty Consultants and Beauty Therapists offered individualized makeup lessons to cancer patients via an online meeting system. They shared cover techniques for appearance changes from cancer treatment and personalized makeup looks, and walked participants through how to take good selfies.

Though some participants were unfamiliar at first with using a PC, many were thrilled with the results after the lesson, with such feedback as:

  • “I thought it was nice that the event was online because many of us are voluntarily refraining from going out; this way, anyone can attend the event even if she does not live in Tokyo.”
  • “My Beauty Consultant was courteous and walked me through each step.  Her kindness gave me the courage to continue my treatment.”
  • “I got exactly the advice I needed.”

Participants went on social media and posted their selfies along with a message about their passions, as one of many actions by LAVENDER RING to promote a society where people with cancer can continue to smile.

LAVENDER RING CHANNEL was a live streaming event, offering a variety of contents including a talk session with Mr. Shinsuke Kasai (freelance announcer and survivor of malignant lymphoma) and Ms. Chiaki Hara (TV personality, survivor, and founder of patient support group Yotsuba no Kai), hosted by Ms. Miho Nakai; a discussion with Youtubers and Instagrammers in their teens and 20s; tips on taking photos with a smartphone presented by Shiseido photographer Mr. Masato Kanazawa; and a lunch session with Ms. Shibata and Ms. Arai (survivors and founders of Nekojitado).

Shiseido Top HMAs* Mr. Tadashi Harada and Ms. Yoshiko Jinguji joined Mr. Kasai and Ms. Hara to share easy makeup techniques for cancer patients dealing with sparse eyebrows and wearing a face mask.

Curry was on the menu for the lunch session, and survivors shared experiences about being able to eat curry when their appetite was affected by chemotherapy. The executive chef of Shiseido Parlour also spoke about his encounter with the aroma of curry.

Shiseido is committed to promoting a society where cancer patients feel comfortable and confident, and will continue to provide clear and practical information and support.
