A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

The name ‘Shiseido’ comes from a phrase in the Chinese classical text, I Ching: “Praise the virtues of the Earth, which nurtures new life and brings forth significant value (Ban butsu shi sei).” Respect for the planet, society and people has been embedded in our culture, and we have been generating new value with the sustainability perspective since our foundation in 1872. For example, we have developed and put into practical use technologies to reduce environmental impact, such as developing formula/ingredients, refillable packaging and providing in-store re-filling. Through our developing reusable packaging, which began collaboration with our consumers, and through various stakeholders, we are aiming to establish a unique recycling model that can raise the bar for industry standards. These are our groundbreaking initiative that can enable product packaging reusability without the need for sorting a variety of plastic packaging. Shiseido's journey continues with the aim of making switching to refillable packaging and practicing recycling as easy to do as possible for skincare customers around the world.
