Shiseido has long been committed to promoting women’s empowerment and gender equality, and in 2023, it established the Shiseido DE&I Lab as an internal research organization. In today’s diverse workplaces, inclusion goes beyond simply accepting differences—it means leveraging them as organizational strengths.
Since its launch, the Shiseido DE&I Lab has partnered with Professor Shintaro Yamaguchi of the University of Tokyo to examine how diverse talent contributes to organizational performance, generating evidence-based insights shared both internally and externally.
This symposium explores workplace inclusion through two key dimensions—Belongingness and Uniqueness—to help visualize the current state of individuals and organizations. Case findings from Shiseido also reveal that, depending on the department and situation, some women may experience challenges in expressing their authentic selves. By unpacking these dynamics, the symposium will offer practical tips for inclusive leadership and team management.
